The antique dealer who owed this Durgin water pitcher wanted that beautiful monogram removed. I detest removing monograms because of their history attached to the piece. Having said that, if a dealer or collector comes to me and says "Take this mono off or I'll take it to someone who will," I will do it because that person may take the piece to someone less qualified, ending up with less than perfect results. I used hand files and wet-dry 1200-grit silicon carbide paper to remove the file marks...
