Conservation
on Gorham Trophy

This beautiful Martelé tennis trophy was made in the early 20th century. I conserved this museum piece using only the most gentle silver cleaning products with a cellulose sponge, being careful not to disturb the overall finish. I very lightly machine buffed only the outsides of the handles and then hand finished the entire piece to bring out its original luster. I leveled the base using a rubber mallet to avoid scratching the surface. I preserved the factory-applied patina and left the lightest scratches intact to maintain the piece's natural antique appearance. I then coated the entire piece with Renaissance wax for years of maintenance-free exhibiting. |
