The object pictured include metalsmithing nomenclature with meanings found in the Glossary. Legend: h (height), l (length), w (width), d (depth), dia. (diameter), g (gauge).
The pieces, created in 1990, stand 10" tall and are forged from 3/8"-thick sterling sheet. The pair weigh a total of 41½ troy ounces and took 120 hours to complete. The soldering of the piece that holds the candle spike to the more massive upright section was tricky, due to the disparity in size and thickness of the two pieces. A small piece soldered to a larger piece will come up to temperature more rapidly. It is critical to focus heat on the larger piece in order to equalize the temperature around the solder joint. The octagonal candle spike is threaded onto a pin that is soldered to the foot, making them removable for easy cleaning. Photo: Thuss PhotographyBack to Candle Holders
