I am completely pleased with this
piece. It represents some of my best technical work and I find it
aesthetically pleasing. The basket weave design is a very traditional
old French technique; some of the tools used to do this were handed
down to me by my mentor and originated in a late 18th century French
studio. I particularly like the rounded base as it tends to lift the
design off the surface it's placed. The piece represents a
significant amount of work. The finish on the top's star design is
pure chasing with no sanding or buffing. Achieving a surface this
smooth with hammer-struck tools is not easy, but the fact that it
throws back light in an innumerable faceted quality allows it to
glisten rather than simply shine.
